SAT/    ACT test – When should your child take the SAT/ACT?

v     If your child is a senior, then he/she should have already taken the exam(s).  If they wish for higher score then he/she will be taking the fall exams.

v     If your child is a junior in Pre-Calculus, then he/she should be ready to take either the SAT or the ACT now.

v     If your child is a junior in Algebra II, then he/she will be ready for the SAT this fall and the ACT this coming summer.  They are best prepared for the ACT after completing Algebra II.

v     If your child is a sophomore in Algebra II, then the same applies to them as the juniors listed above, but please note that the colleges require the scores to be from their junior or senior year.  So if they take the test as a sophomore, it is strictly for practice.

SAT/ACT test – Which test should your child take?

v      That will depend on your child’s strengths, reading and writing versus science.  The SAT consists of one part reading, one part writing, and one part math.  While the ACT consists of one part reading, one part writing, one part math, and one part science.  The SAT is a much longer test than the ACT.

v     The math on the ACT looks exactly like the math that is taught in my Algebra II class.  The math on the SAT also has logic on it, which the ACT does not.  So I spend the Wednesday's in the fall semester of Algebra II doing SAT prep during class time.

Scholarships requirements- SAT/ACT, Community Service, and GPA

v     It takes hard work to raise the SAT/ACT scores to where you may like to have them, it takes many hours of community services, and it takes hard work to keep the grade point average where it needs to be to qualify for many of the scholarships that you will come across.

v     The SAT prep sessions on Sunday's are for those who need more than an hour a week to get the scores where they would like to get them.  We had several students with thousands of dollars in scholarships last year at graduation
