The Board approved the 2008-2009 school calendar for Brock ISD.
The Board approved all three campus improvement plans.
The Board approved the Application for Electric Service and the Agreement for Service with Tri-County Electric for the new High School. Total charge for underground service to the school will be $4,144.21. Tri-County gave the district a discount of donated material and labor of $26,111.62, which was greatly appreciated by the district.
The Board also approved the TEA Application for Waiver Regarding Low Attendance Days that could be used at the end of the school year to prevent days of high absenteeism from negatively affecting average daily attendance and state funding.
The Board approved TASB Policy Update 82 for the district’s policy guidelines.
The Board accepted a donation for an 8th Grade field trip to Washington, D.C. this summer. Students will be expected to raise some money in addition to the donated money for the trip.
Business Discussion Items:
Superintendent Richard Tedder updated the board on the construction of the roof overlay at the Elementary/Middle School. The elementary roof should be completed by the end of February.
Comparisons of 2006 and 2007 top ten taxpayers of Brock ISD and electric cost comparisons for the years 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 were shared with the Board. Overall, the high school electric costs were only about $600 more than last years cost and the elementary electric costs were about $1,300 less than last year. Our new roof on the elementary/middle school building should also help in energy savings for those campuses.
Ralph Perkins, the school architect, has met with high school staff twice now and we are working on detailed floor plan drawings of the high school. Square footage estimates for the main building and vo-agricultural building is running about 108,000 sq. ft. Information concerning the construction of the road to the high school and long range site development will be presented at the next Board meeting along with some elevation drawings. We are hopeful that the timeframe for dirt work and site preparation can be moved forward. We are hopeful that as soon as detailed prints are available, bidding can begin on actual construction.
