Construction Update

New Information on Brock ISD High School Construction Project

July 7, 2008

On July 3, 2008, at a called Board meeting, the Brock ISD trustees approved the construction bids for the new high school facilities to be built at our property acquired on Highway 1189.

The total cost of $20,503,707 provides for the construction of the new 117,000 square foot high school, which includes a 3,100 square foot band hall, a 9,052 square foot agricultural sciences building, and a 3,100 square foot tennis pavilion with dressing areas, public restrooms, concession area, covered area for seating or eating, and eight tennis courts (two of which are lighted).  This tennis pavilion could also provide restroom facilities and concession facilities for baseball and softball fields if/when they are added later to the campus.  An eight lane all-weather competition track will be constructed at the site with conduit and panels for future lighting.  Our high school building will include a beautiful cafetorium with concert and drama performance capabilities and feature lighting and sound equipment to enhance those activities.  Stadium seating on the home side will be a focal point of the main gym, while the practice gym will include some bleacher seating on one side.  Full dressing areas for all sports and P.E. classes with weight room facilities are provided along with coaches offices, training facilities, etc.  All parking lots will be concrete and curbed with required ADA areas and ramps.  Along with the new facilities, our district acquired 162 acres of land that will serve our district’s needs for many years into the future.

The county will be building our road to the high school and after completion of the new “Eagle Drive” we will dedicate it back to the county for their maintenance.  Phase two of the dirt work and drainage projects are continuing, and actual construction of the high school facility and related facilities will begin soon.  We are also currently renovating the house located at the high school site in preparation of moving the administration offices out of a portable to that location as soon as possible.  Money required for this renovation is coming from the district fund balance, not the bond construction funds.

The administration and Board would like to once again thank our facilities planning committee, our parents, and patrons, who have been a part of the exciting process of moving Brock ISD to another level of success and higher expectations in academics, extracurricular activities, and athletics in the future.

A town hall meeting and reception is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, 2008 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the high school library to present the new high school to the public.  Administrators, board members, architects, and construction managers will be available to provide information concerning our new facilities and answer questions that the public might have.  Please plan to be there and enjoy the excitement of the evening.  Refreshments will be provided.  This is a very exciting time to be a Brock Eagle.  We will try to  continue updates to the public as often as possible to keep you informed of progress, decisions of the Administration/Board, and coming events.
