Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to Brock Elementary and to the “Wonderful World of Brock”, where we are WILD about our school, WILD about our wonderful children, and WILD about learning and adventure!
The faculty and staff join me in saying we are excited to have you as part of the Brock family. Brock Elementary aims to develop each child’s full potential and dreams. When you walk through our doors and down the hallways, you can see that our students come first! It is important that we share this belief and that all of us work together to make it even more special for Brock Elementary.
We feel that clear communication between the school and home is important to the success of our educational program. Brock parents are our partners in the important job of educating the children of our community. The beginning of a school year is very exciting. We welcome your participation and support during the school year and hope you will become a member of our PTC and Volunteer program.
Parents can help in the education of a child by volunteering to help in the classrooms, work with students in the classrooms, work in the library, or simply by helping teachers with their daily routines. Parents who would like to mentor students are encouraged to visit the office to discuss this important opportunity.
Working together we will be able to reach our collective and individual goals for our students. We look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students with you this school year.
We are looking forward to a GREAT school year!
Dee Ann Mills, Kg-5th Principal
Wonderful World of Brock, where learning is an adventure!
Parents and Students:
This packet has been prepared to assist you through out the school year. The Student Handbook, which you will receive on “Meet the Teacher Night”, is filled with important information regarding school policy and procedures. I suggest that parents and students review the contents together. If you have questions that remain unanswered after reading the student handbook, the Principal’s Welcome Letter, and other information contained in this packet, please call the school office at 817-594-8017 and we will be glad to help you.
New News:
We have a new 3rd grade teacher on campus this school year, Jennifer Mc Gehee. She will be taking Mrs. Neff’s place this school year. Amy Drillette will work with Mrs. Bradshaw and Mrs. Wood as our new kindergarten teacher and Melissa Burden is our new school nurse. All three ladies have big plans for the new school year. We are excited to have them join our Brock Elementary family!
**VISITORS ON CAMPUS:
We encourage visitors on our campus at any time. We do ask that all visitors sign in at the office before entering our campus. Parents, grandparents and siblings are considered a visitor.
*STUDENTS LEAVING EARLY
If it is necessary for you to pick your child up before the end of the day, we ask that you come to the office and check in. It is always beneficial to send a note with your child ahead of time so the classroom teacher will be prepared. All early student checkouts need to be processed before 3:10. For the protection and safety of all Brock students, please do not attempt to retrieve your child from the classroom without reporting to the front office first.
*ATTENDANCE
Texas State Law mandates regular attendance in school. Students must be present at least 90% of the school year. To encourage regular attendance the students are given an award for perfect attendance. Students must be present each period of each day to receive this award. Please encourage your child to strive to reach this goal. If a student must leave due to a doctor’s appointment, he/she must bring a medical notice from the doctor’s office noting the date and time to be counted present for the day.
The State of Texas has a passed into law a pledge policy. The Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge will be recited daily followed by a brief moment of silence. If you have a religious practice that would keep your child from participating, please notify the office in writing that explains why your child will be refraining from pledging.
School begins at 7:55. Tardy bell at 8:00. Dismissal for Elementary Kg-5 will be at 3:20.
Children should not arrive earlier than 7:30 or remain on the campus later than 3:45 unless they are participating in a school sponsored activity.
School doors will not open until 7:30 a.m. each school day.
Supervision will not be provided for students who arrive before 7:30 a.m. or remain later than 3:45 p.m.
*RIDING THE SCHOOL BUS
The office must have a note from a parent or guardian before a student can ride a different bus, be let off at a different location, or be released to anyone not on the student registration form.
A new school bus discipline policy has been adopted by the school board. You may find this policy in the Student Handbook. Please read over this policy with your child and discuss proper school bus behavior. This effort will help Brock ISD with most bus safety concerns.
*REPORT CARDS
Report cards will be sent home at the end of each six weeks. This is a means of informing parents/guardians of the student’s progress in each subject.
Elementary Students Kg-5 or Cars with Both Middle School and Elementary Students: will continue to use the entrance located on the east side of the high school. Please follow the road around the pond and stay in the left lane when the road divides into two lanes. Please pull up to the front of the building to drop students off and pull up to the pavilion area for picking up a student. For the protection of our students, faculty will place all students in vehicles. Do not pass other cars in this area. It creates a dangerous situation for our students when passing other vehicles. Many of our students enter and exit from the left side of their vehicle.
**Please do not attempt to pick students up from Grindstone road access in the afternoons. This will interfere with the busses loading students and leaving on time.
**There is no parking or drop off area for students in the gravel lot in front of the tennis courts before school or after school, as this is teacher parking. This is an extremely dangerous area for all students to be dropped off.
**Please remain in your vehicle. For the protection and safety of our students, Brock ISD will not release any student to be picked up in any area other than the designated student pick up zone.
NEW TRAFFIC SIGNS:
**You will notice that our “One Way Only” sign has changed to “One Way Only during the Hours of 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may enter and exit the front drive anytime during the school day except during the hours listed above. For the safety of our students, we have also closed the road beside the tennis courts during the school day. This road is to remain closed during the hours of 8:15 am. – 3:15 p.m.
